Rotary International is a global network of service volunteers. It is the world's largest service organisation, with some 1,180,000 members operating in 163 countries world-wide. The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self."

The Barton le Clay Rotary Club in Bedfordshire is one of 1,816 clubs in Great Britain and Ireland, where there are 59,000 Rotarians helping those in need and working towards world understanding and peace. It is a fulfilling role, and Rotarians can get involved as much or as little as their time will allow.

The world's Rotary Clubs meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. Every Rotarian has a right to attend any Club meeting anywhere in the world, so there is always somewhere to go, and people to meet, wherever business or leisure travel may take you.

Rotarians initiate community projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as violence, drug abuse, youth, AIDS, hunger, the environment, and illiteracy. Rotary clubs are autonomous and determine service projects based on local needs. An important distinction between Rotary and other organisations is that membership in Rotary is by invitation.
